Family’s devotion behind 100-1 shot Pixie

WHEN Pixie My Love landed a heat of the Listed Rising Stars at Albion Park late in October at the unheard of odds of 100-1, that meant little to Adam McIntosh and his family.

It was the fact Pixie My Love is proof of the devotion of the McIntosh family to their greyhounds that was closest to their hearts.

Pixie My Love, you see, is by Dyna Villa from the McIntosh bitch Cincinnati Juice.

One day after Cincinnati Juice whelped her litter way back in June 2019, she died of a ruptured uterus.

It devastated the family because she had already produced a wonderfully fast litter by Barcia Bale.

But, Adam\’s wife Gail and then 14-year-old daughter Immogyn got to it and became mums to those puppies.

\”We tried everything to find a surrogate mother for the pups, and so many friends of ours tried to do the same,\” said Adam. \”But we couldn\’t.\”

It was left to Gail and Immogyn to carry them through.

\”Every two hours they got up to bottle feed those pups,\” said Adam. \”Both girls shared turns doing it.

\”We got them through, but as you can imagine, everyone now loves those pups even more than anyone thought possible. And Pixie My Love is Gail\’s dog from the litter.

\”She loves her.\”

Gail is one of those greyhound lovers who cannot watch a race live.

\”She waits to watch the replay when she knows they have come through the race safe and sound,\” said Adam.

Few greyhounds even start at 100-1 let alone win at those odds. Adam admits he \”had something on her, not much, but something\”.

He had actually given her a rough place chance in the race despite coming up against stars like Group 3 Townsville Cup winner Dulceria and young star Indictment.

Pixie My Love went into the Rising Stars heats without having previous 520m experience and was coming off a fifth at Capalaba at her previous race.

But what she did have is the love of a family devoted to greyhounds. It pulled her through way back in June 2019 and again in the Rising Stars heat.
