Great racing in Bundy’s Oaks and Derby

\"\"Howie (akaCambla Kid), may not have been a champion on the track, but he could always sniff out a yarn. Now retired, each month Howie hunts up morsels of news from his beloved Bundaberg club. Here’s his latest offering.

WOW Bundy on a Mundy is certainly taking off!

What a great month with the heats and then final of the Oaks and Derby over 550m, certainly a test of speed and stamina.

I’m happy to announce the Oaks was won by a local, Talking Numbers, trained by John Kuhn,  while Unencumbered, trained by Lorraine Ilses, was brave leading the boys around before being pipped down the straight by an amazing run from favourite Barcia Bullet trained by Darren Taylor of Rockhampton.

Watch out for a rematch in the 550m free-for-all heats with the final on Monday, October 4.

TOOK a drive this week (well I didn\’t drive, mum was chauffeur) up to the club.

Everyone is so proud of the way the track looks. I took a walk around and found green grass, no weeds and even, if I was 10 years younger, I may have jogged.

TENDERS are coming in for the upgrade of the track and amenities, which will change some of the distances and adjust the camber plus give us a new rail and stewards tower.

It\’s sure to make the track even more desirable.

Watching the races on telly, Bundy looks stunning. The dogs stand out clear on the grass topped off with our wonderful sunny weather … who wouldn\’t want to run here.

LOOKING into the future, we hope to secure funding to extend the kennel block to hold a 12-race meet plus stewards trials and upgrade facilities for vet and swab room.

Unfortunately at present we are limited to 10 races and if we have stewards trials we have very limited kennels for after races trial dogs.

Please note if the trial kennels are taken you are required to have an air-conditioned trailer for the dogs to be kept in during the day.

WITH school holidays about, we look forward to seeing the public at the track and don’t forget to bring the kids.

We have plenty of room for them to run around and we love hearing the little ones screaming out their favourite number as we strut our stuff.

See you there!

Yours in racing spirit
