The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is calling on greyhound owners, trainers and or breeders to nominate to be part of the Commission’s Greyhound Racing Injury Working Group.

The Working Group which includes key Commission and Racing Queensland animal welfare staff and race officials plans to appoint a racing industry participant to the group.

This invitation is being extended to a participant to contribute to the working group with their industry expertise and their membership would be valid for one year and rotated as required.

The aim is for the group members to work collaboratively to review serious racing injuries that may have occurred.

The Working Group meets once a month in person at 60 Kingsford Smith Drive, Albion, in Brisbane, or remotely on the third Wednesday each month at 10am until 12pm.

If there is interest from several greyhound racing participants, the Working Group will select a suitable person by ballot.

The Commission, in consultation with Racing Queensland (RQ), established the Greyhound Racing Injury Working Group to review all serious and catastrophic injuries to greyhounds on Queensland racetracks and its objectives are to carry out reviews in a consistent and detailed manner taking into consideration race, individual greyhound, and track factors.

The working group also investigates each injury to understand and record the real and potential causes of racing injuries.

The group makes recommendations to the Commission and Racing Queensland for the development and implementation of preventative measures that will reduce the rate and severity of injuries to racing greyhounds.

Those interested in becoming the Working Group industry representative should email their nomination, including a brief paragraph or dot points outlining your interest and experience to QRIC Animal Welfare Manager Ann-Marie Boyd at annmarie.boyd@qric.qld.gov.au

Nominations close on October 10, 2021.

The successful nominee along with the Working Group members will be announced next month in the November edition of Chase.
