Let’s See focused on Newcastle Cup

TRAINER Mark Davidson is aiming recent addition Let\’s See at this month\’s Listed $25,000-to-the-winner Newcastle Cup (715m) at The Gardens.

Let\’s See has been a model of consistency since joining Davidson\’s Brandy Hill kennels in August.

And he has high hopes for the talented black stayer in the Cup series (heats December 4, final December 11).

The daughter of My Bro Fabio and Asteroid Miss has raced six times for her new trainer for two wins – at Wentworth Park and The Gardens – and four minor placings.

She clocked a career best 34.49s in winning a GRNSW Middle Distance Series event over 600m at The Gardens last month after three successive placings over the trip.

And her Wentworth Park victory in September over 720m was in BON time (42.32s).

Davidson withdrew Let\’s See from the Sydney Cup heats in October because of a foot injury but she appears to have overcome that problem.

He has a high opinion of the stayer.

The trainer said Let\’s See was beaten a neck at her first go for him over the Newcastle middle distance.

\”She got decked twice in the run and was a certainty beaten,\” he said.

\”Then she went to Wenty and won, then she was third when she made a few mistakes from an outside box.

\”She just needs a bit of luck early.

\”She\’s still a little bit green, learning to get through the field, but she\’s got a motor.

\”She\’ll be very hard to beat if she gets up front.\”

The Newcastle Cup has grown in stature in recent years.

Dual Group 1 winner Blue Moon Rising headlined last year\’s Cup after being part of a same-litter trifecta the previous year.

In 2018 the John Finn trio of Poco Dorado, Blue Moon Rising and Veloce Nero filled the placings and Blue Moon Rising had to settle for second again last year behind the Jodie Lord-prepared Just Terms in the final.

The Newcastle Cup honour roll boasts some outstanding stayers including the likes of Poco Dorado, Zipping Lad, Lilley Criminal, Dashing Corsair, Miagi and Royal Riddle.
