Libby’s Girl wins Thomson Memorial

VETERAN trainer Wayne Scott is not sure what lies ahead of young bitch Libby’s Girl after her all-the-way win in the Eric Thomson Memorial Maiden final at Albion Park in late July.
A daughter of Fenando Bale and Velocity Mist, Libby’s Girl jumped smartly from box three and defied all attempts to chase her down. She won by 1¾ lengths from Jeff Crawford’s Cool Hand Luke in 30.34 seconds at the good odds of $14.
Victory was worth $11,200 to connections of the black bitch although Scott was not on hand to see the win. He was driving home from Emerald where he had been on a job as a painter.
“I haven’t thought of that yet,” said Scott when asked about what he hopes to do with the bitch.
“I’ll probably talk to the owners and see what they want to do.”
Scott has been involved in greyhounds for some 40 years and used to have a number of dogs with Tony Zammit.
He still trains, but has a kennel full of pups at his Churchable headquarters.
Scott said it was an honour to win such a time-honoured event as the Thomson Memorial, which started way back in the 1980s at the old Coast Coast track inside Stephens Paceway.
