Mrs Sing’s last-race win was a fitting ‘ farewell’

TRICIA Fuller decided it was a good time to pull the plug.

Tricia has been battling away for the past two-and-a-half years, keeping her interest in greyhound training via the deeds of a very smart race bitch called Mrs Sing.

The daughter of Thirty Talks-Spring Dream had been bred way back in August 2017 by Tricia’s late husband Glenn Smith.

Glenn died in June 2019, but at least he got to see Mrs Sing win her very first race, a 431m Maiden at Ipswich way back on April 2 that year.

Since then, Mrs Sing has kept Tricia training in memory of Glenn.

After their many successes Tricia decided enough was enough when Mrs Sing won a Masters over 520m at Albion Park in December.

\”It was good for her to go out a winner and at four-and-a-half years of age,\” Tricia said.

Mrs Sing, named after Tricia\’s \”Nan\” Jean Sing, retired after 55 starts for 16 wins and 14 placings earning $54,000.

\”Nan\’s father trained dogs,\” Tricia said. \”Mrs Sing was an appropriate name for her because she does like to sing around the kennels.\”

Glenn and Jean would have been proud.

\”They both got to see her race and win,\” Tricia said.

Along the way, Mrs Sing has won at Ipswich and Albion Park, but Tricia admits she has been hampered in recent times where she could race her.

\”I\’ve been working five days a week on race days at Ipswich and Capalaba, and I certainly couldn\’t race her where I was working,\” she said.

Mrs Sing is from the very last litter of pups Glenn bred.

\”We kept three of them and they all won,\” Tricia said.

Tricia says life hasn\’t changed much for her since Glenn died.

\”We\’ve still got dogs, still live in our home at Park Ridge,\” she said.

But Tricia is content that her training is coming to a slow close.

\”I\’ve got a pup I bought from Gavin Lowe,\” she said. \”It\’s being reared at the moment, but I will probably get someone to train it for me.\”

Of Mrs Sing, Tricia says she has been approached by someone asking to breed with her.

So, now that Mrs Sing has gone out a winner, Tricia is happy to be a regular around Ipswich and Capalaba helping out on race days and generally enjoying still the life of greyhound racing. Glenn and Nan would be proud for sure.
