Each month Chase will highlight the story behind Queensland’s most recent complete monthly breeding statistics: March, 2022
By DAVID BRASCH
JEFF Cumming and Steve Kavanagh have been mates for decades.
Steve is often sending dogs to Jeff’s Wolffdene training complex and their success rate has been great.
The pair have combined with the whelping of three bitches and two dogs by Steve’s Golden Easter Egg winner and top sire Cosmic Rumble from Donna Rumble (Primo Uno-Rumble Street).
The bitch won 13 races and earned $29,000 for ‘JC’ and she came from a litter that also included prolific winners Emmaville Bella (7 wins, $29,000) and Premier Rumble (9 wins, $31,000).
‘JC’ also trained Donna Rumble’s mother Rumble Street (9 wins, $27,000) who finished third to Clash Of Kings in a Group 3 Darwin Cup.
Those who fancy a pedigree analysis should take time out to view the Cosmic Rumble-Donna Rumble mating. Cosmic Rumble and Rumble Street are both bred on the cross of Spiral Nikita, Brett Lee and Rumble Spirit … but shuffled around in each of their pedigrees.
Steve is no stranger to undertaking such intense matings.
Back in 2006 he whelped a dog called Rumble Impact, who was in-bred 2×2 to the half relations Rumble Spirit and Smooth Rumble. He went to stud in Ireland and became a success. His daughter Droopys Danneel is the dam of G1 English Derby winner Dorotas Wildcat, who in turn has sired Thorn Falcon, also the winner of the G1 English Derby.
Tom Kinnear is riding high on the success of Orchestrate (Barcia Bale-Speculate) winner of the G3 Origin Sprint, G3 Rocky Cup, a Young Guns at Albion Park and the Australia Day Trophy. He is a G1 Gold Bullion finalist.
Speculate, a full sister to Jagger Swagger (damsire of superstar She’s A Pearl), has just whelped three dogs and four bitches to Fernando Bale.
Interesting that Orchestrate and She’s A Pearl are bred along very similar lines.
Speculate, a 29.90 maiden winner at Albion Park, broke a hock after just a handful of starts. She has a young litter by Aston Dee Bee showing great ability.
Molly Campbell Silver Dollars winner and G2 Laurels finalist Isla’s Style (Fear Zafonic-Terrific Style) has been a pretty good broodbitch for Brent Kline.
She recently whelped six dogs and one bitch to her mating to Beast Unleashed, the boom young stud dog.
Isla’s Style’s best produce is Grafton sprinter TR holder Orara Dan who was recently third in the Listed Grafton Cup.
The Beast Unleashed mating Brent did is inspired. His dam Little Miss Hap is from the Queen Size damline and this family has always done well when crossed with Fear Zafonic.
Standout Victorian-based sire Bernardo’s dam is bred on this cross.
Capalaba Futurity finalist, Inspired Hope (Zambora Brockie-Lilly Sur Seine), comes from one of the very best litters produced in Queensland in recent years, one that included Sequana, Stinger Noir, No Easy Beat, Made In America etc.
The Donna Darcy-owned Inspired Hope has just whelped three dogs and six bitches by top class sire Aussie Infrared.
It is a re-creation of the Aussie Infrared/Barcia Bale cross found in Aussie’s G1 stars Catch The Thief and Playlist.
Inspired Hope was a pretty smart race bitch who won in a lightning 24.79 at Ipswich among her seven wins.
Capalaba skipper John Catton knows just how good Jasper The Jet was on the racetrack. The son of Fernando Bale-Visualize It won 14 races and $57,000 and Catton was always keen to give him an opportunity at stud.
That has emerged with the six dogs and three bitches he has sired to the Fabregas-Great Gunns bitch Snakey Katie, a multiple Albion Park winner up to 600m.
It is the highly proven Fernando Bale/Fabregas cross proven to G1 level numerous times.
Queenslander Tony Apap and WA’s Dave Hobby have been mates for many, many years.
So, it was only natural when Dave decided to take a stand against compulsory vaccination over in WA and moved on so many of the greyhounds on his property that he would turn to Tony to take some on.
One of those is the Group class PETRIA MONELLI (Fernando Bale-Sharon Monelli), the winner of 21 races and $146,000.
Apap has just whelped two dogs and three bitches from Petria Monelli’s litter to Orson Allen.
This is the famous Another Fool female family but one that has stood the test of time for the Hobby kennel. G1 Perth Cup winner Trouper Monelli is just one of the superstars from this family in WA.
She might have won just three races, but Wildash Jazzy (Shakey Jakey-Harbour Gift) could certainly gallop.
She made a Young Guns final at Albion Park and two of her three race wins were there.
Wildash Jazzy has just whelped a three-bitch litter to Shima Shine, that superstar of Australian racing.
The Gainey boys, Pat and his team out there at Warwick, have put their faith in the bitch, a litter sister to Wildash Jakey, a G3 Flying Amy Classic finalist.
Their dam Harbour Gift is a prolific producer. This is the direct female family of Girl Aloud, who has developed a dynasty of her own in Victorian racing.
