DASHING CORSAIR for the Lennon and Fitch families is crowned Queensland GOTY for 2011. Bogie King and He Knows Uno are runners-up. Entering the Queensland Hall of Fame are Bogie Leigh, the Bellamy family and trainer Ron Ball.
GODSEND for Jason Thompson wins the Gr 1 Silver Chief Classic at The Meadows by six lengths. Glen Gallon and Heston Bale are the placegetters.
KALDEN MAYHEM, trained by Troy Murray, is crowned the South Australian GOTY for 2011.
TWENTY YEARS AGO – JANUARY 2002
SPRINGTIME MAGIC, trained by Ron Ball, is the 2001 Queensland GOTY. She only won one feature at Albion Park for the year, the Publican’s Cup, but had brilliant form at other venues including a win in the time-honoured Tweed Heads Galaxy.
BROOKSIDE BEAR, trained locally by Terry Cahalan, beats Victorians Carlisle Jack and Henerik Bale in the Gr 1 Adelaide Cup.
PRISTINE RAIDER from the Mellor kennel is crowned South Australian Greyhound of the Year for 2011. Pristine Raider tied with Webster Bale for the title the previous year.
THIRTY YEARS AGO – JANUARY 1992
WALLOWA FLASH for Margaret Quarrell is crowned the 1991 Queensland GOTY. The dashing sprinter excelled in races at the Gabba, Capalaba and the Gold Coast Parklands.
GEM SUPREME for George Rehmann is the 1991 South Australian GOTY. Gem Supreme was runner-up the following year to the star sprinter True To Do.
SOUTH ROAD SID wins the Gr 1 Adelaide Cup by five lengths for trainer Ray Cunneen of Moe in Victoria. It’s a race record time of 29.83 for the 512 metres distance.
