HIGH EARNER, trained by Kel Greenough, wins the gr 1 Perth Cup.

BLUE LORIAN for Sydney trainer Peter Whye wins the gr 1 Galaxy over 710m at Cannington.

BOGIE KING, trained by Queenslander Ryan Ayre, wins the gr 1 National Derby, run at the Gardens in Newcastle.

CRYSTIN BALE for Brendan Wheeler wins the gr 1 National Futurity, also at the Gardens.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 2001

QUEEN MUFFIN for Johannes Vanderburg wins the gr 1 National Futurity at Wentworth Park.
MEAN BEAN for Mark Bell wins the gr 1 National Derby at Wentworth Park.

TOP SHIRAZ, at four years of age, romps home by six lengths in the gr 3 Launceston Cup for Pat McClenaghan.

AWESOME ATTACK for John Clancy of northern NSW wins the Vince Curry Memorial Maiden at Ipswich in 30.25. This was the last Vince Curry run over 512 metres, the distance increasing to 520m the following year. 1999 winner Just the Best holds the Vince Curry 512 metres record winning time at 29.76.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 1991

PRETTY TARDY, at odds of $8, wins the gr 1 National Derby for Queenslander Ron Spence.

FAST APPEAL from the Bayly kennel wins the gr 1 Association Cup over 720m at Wentworth Park. It’s a race record time of 42.96, eclipsing the 42.97 set by the Dennis Reid trained Whip Tip three years earlier.

PAINTED HILUX for Mick Stringer wins the Launceston Cup by five lengths. In an unusual betting market, the winner was 5 to 2 ($3.50) equal favourite. There were two other equal favourites, Silver Platinum who ran fourth and Friendly Flyer who was fifth.
