2020 TAB Greyhound of the Year Finalists

\"\"RACING Queensland has announced the three finalists in the running for the 2020 TAB Greyhound of the Year.

Classy Ethics, Farmor Beach and Oh Mickey will battle it out for the major award at the Queensland greyhound industry’s night of nights at the Victoria Park Golf Club on March 19.

The Jeff Crawford-trained Classy Ethics stamped herself as one of the leading stayers in the state over the last 12 months, securing a maiden Group 1 win in the TAB Queensland Cup at Albion Park in July on her way to eight wins from 27 starts in 2020.  Her stellar season also secured the bitch a start in the invitational Group 1 Top Gun Stayers.

Wayne Scott’s Farmor Beach started 2020 in dominant fashion, with a debut win in the Vince Curry Memorial heats, on his way to taking out the Group 3 Final in February at Ipswich, before claiming the Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup.

The dog added a Molly Campbell Memorial series win to the trophy cabinet, as well as a second placing in the Group 2 Queensland Derby to finish the year with 16 wins and six placings from 27 starts, and just shy of $190,000 in prize money.

Oh Mickey, trained by Selena Zammit, established himself as the benchmark in the Queensland sprinting ranks, recording 15 wins and six placings from 29 starts in 2020.

At just his seventh career start, Oh Mickey announced himself on the national stage, claiming a two-length victory in the National Derby at Wentworth Park, before going on to claim the Group 2 Richmond Derby two months later.

Oh Mickey’s dominant year also earned him an invitation to the Group 1 Top Gun Sprinters in November.

Unfortunately, this proved to be the dog’s final race, after a stopper bone injury forced owner Clint Kratzmann to call time on his fledging career.

Other awards to be handed out on the night include:

  • The Young Achiever;
  • Woman in Racing;
  • Run of the Year;
  • RQ Outstanding Contribution Award;
  • QRIC Welfare Award;
  • Hall of Fame inductees; and
  • Club Award winners (leading trainer and leading greyhound).
