TAKE a look back in time at the pedigree of legendary Queensland broodbitch Queen Size.
An Albion Park winner, in the late 1990s, early 2000s, she was by Deep North-Ultra Queen by Ultravana.
A quick ‘squiz’ through her pedigree shows LOTS of not commercial bloodlines.
Her sire Deep North ran a close 2nd in the G1 National Derby and did well at stud.
Her damsire Ultravana was a great race dog.
Deep North and Ultra Queen were both bred on the Magic Gull/Nation Parade cross. Magic Gull was a star for the late, great Jim Grundon, and Nation Parade was the unraced litter brother to champion Promises Free.
I have always found Queen Size’s pedigree amazing.
A simple run through her direct damline traces to Classy Zoom, her fifth dam, and she was a full sister by Black Top-Busy Beaver to the immortal Zoom Top.
It is an interesting fact that when Nation Parade was mixed in pedigrees with his litter sister Promises Free, the result was ‘double’ the number of city winners to those mating where they appeared on their own.
Queensland hall of famer, Surf Lorian, is intensely in-bred 3×2 to the litter brothers West Cape and Amerigo Man litter brothers by Brother Fox-Promises Free.
Queen Size, of course, became a star producer in Queensland.
But, in more recent times, her influence has been added by the fact she is the third dam of leading stud dog Bernardo (KC And All-Surfonic), now the sire of the winners of $20 million.
Among his stars are Hector Fawley, Baby Jaycee, Explicit, Saige Tenniele, Aussie Secret, Umberto etc.
The pedigree of Saige Tenniele (G1 Nat Sprint) is fabulous in that she carries 4×5 double of Queen Size along the direct damline on both sides of her pedigree.
The reinforcement of an already hugely in-bred and highly productive broodbitch can often upgrade for racetrack success.
It certainly did just that in the case of Saige Tenniele.
But, that is no one-off example.
Check out the pedigree of that very successful litter in NZ that includes Big Time Sally (3rd G1 Scion Rose) and Big Time Splash (finalist G1 Wanganui Distance Challenge).
They are by Bernardo-Kathlee by Fabregas and have Queen Size 4×4 along the direct damline on both sides of their pedigree.
Which brings me to the John Dart-trained Izzy No Talk (Bernardo-Close Enough by Barcia Bale).
‘Izzy’ can gallop and is a city winner around Albion Park.
Her mother, Close Enough, started 31 times for six wins, 14 placings, and earned $11,000.
She came from a litter than included the classy Mac Roamin’ (14 wins, $61,000).
Close Enough’s mother, Walk With Faith, was a pretty good race bitch and from a great litter. She was a finalist in the G2 Lismore Gold Cup and multiple city winner.
Walk With Faith was a litter sister to Surfonic, the dam of Bernardo.
So, when Close Enough was mated to Bernardo, it brought in a 2×2 of the litter sisters Surfonic and Walk With Faith.
The Bernardo litter also contains Another Houdini who can gallop.
What is even more interesting about all this line breeding to Queen Size is that Abstract Miss, dam of G1 winner Saige Tenniele, is also bred on the same Barcia Bale/Queen Size cross as Close Enough.
Those Group performers in NZ, litter sisters Big Time Splash and Big Time Sally, have Teenage Dream as their 2nd dam. Teenage Dream is the 3rd dam of Saige Tenniele.
The future mating prospects of Saige Tenniele will be something to ponder for her connections headed by her trainer, WA star Kody Charles.
Being in-bred to an in-bred broodbitch means Saige Tenniele’s blood will be saturated by highly successful genes.
NOTHING should be put in the way of those highly successful genes coming through to impact her resultant offspring.
We do this by mating her to a stud dog that does not have any common ancestors to link with Saige Tenniele’s pedigree.
Fernando Bale looks perfect.
