Bundy’s big start to 2022 hasn’t stopped

Howie (aka Cambla Kid), may not have been a champion on the track, but he could always sniff out a yarn. Now retired, each month Howie hunts up morsels of news from his beloved Bundaberg club. Here’s his latest offering.

WOW what an amazing year Bundaberg has started with!

After the Allan Watts-owned All Generes won the inaugural Wildcard that gave it automatic entry into the Bundy Cup (550m), the Cup final was magnificent with the Robert Jacobsen-prepared outsider Jagger Moves winning in a time of 31:15 over the two favourites Lucky Lance (trained by Robert Ayers} and Sunshine Delight (trained by Paul McIveen).

What a delightful day, fantastic crowd – a mix of locals and visitors – sun shining, bar open and some truly amazing racing.

This was then followed by the Maiden 1000 and Easter Cup again with very hot fields.

The Maiden 1000 was taken out by Canya Bellatrix trained and owned by Robert Ayres in a smart time of 26.42 over 460m.

The Easter Cup really shook things up with track favourite Fogelberg missing a place and leaving the very quick Travis Elson-trained Summers Queen to take out honours in a slick 26.05 (track record being 25.96).

Congratulations to all participants who took part in these feature events.

They have really shown some magnificent dogs doing some great times and making for very exciting racing. We really appreciate the support from locals to compete against some tough visitors.

And yet there’s still more to come with the Anzac Day Cup followed by heats of the Young Guns, Grand Prix, President’s Cup and the Valda Halter Memorial.

Bring it on – Bundy on a Mundy, what a great way to spend a day.

Yours in racing spirit

Howie (AKA Cambla Kid)
