Capalaba is back!

That is the message loud and clear from club secretary Erin Cameron ahead of Sunday’s five Young Guns heats over the straight track’s 366m.

“Of course we have been racing every week, but we have moved away from staging features early in the year because of the threat of flooding,” Cameron said.

“The Young Guns signals the return to our feature program.”

And the five heats are dripping with quality.

“The club is absolutely rapt in the nominations for this event. Quality and quantity,” she said.

“Plenty of trainers bring their young dogs through at Capalaba and it is really great to see them return for this feature.

“It is an excellent facility for the schooling of young dogs and so often it is a delight to see them mature into champion dogs.

“And we have a growing list of features for the many older dogs of all ability that race here on a weekly basis.”

The powerhouse Tom Tzouvelis kennel will have five runners in the Young Guns heats, including Vince Curry Maiden winner Duffman, trained by Jedda Cutlack, and recent Ipswich Golden Chase champion Saanvi.

And very recent feature winner Golden Bear (Adam Mcintosh) will also be lining up in the straight track Young Guns.

Golden Bear, in just his fifth outing, won his fourth race in a row when taking out the Eric Thomson Memorial Final (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Mcintosh had no hesitation in backing up the young speedster on Sunday.

“He will need a gallop so I will make use of the opportunity,” he said.

“He has trialled a couple of times at Capalaba before, but has never raced there.”

Mcintosh said it was no surprise that the Capalaba Young Guns had attracted such strong heats.

“Capalaba is a crucial part of almost every local trainer’s preparation of young dogs,” he said.

“These dogs know the track, so no surprise to see them back on Sunday.”

The Capalaba features will continue to roll out, with the Wayne Harris Memorial Final on May 19, the $63,500 Straight Of Origin on June 16 and the Capalaba Grand Prix on June 30.
