Each month Chase’s DAVID BRASCH will highlight the story behind Queensland’s most recent complete monthly breeding statistics
GRAHAM and Leanne Hall have had a big couple of years.
Now they are planning for their greyhound racing future.
Among those plans are the recently whelped four dogs and five bitches by boom young sire Hooked On Scotch from the Halls’ glamour sprinter Spotted Elk (Paw Licking-It Gets Better).
A greyhound of the year in Queensland, Spotted Elk won 17 races and $238,000.
Her most notable victory was the Listed Queensland Flame. It gave her direct entry into the inaugural running of The Phoenix and she did the Halls proud by leading into the back straight and holding on for a gallant second to Wow She’s Fast.
Everyone knows Wow She’s Fast came back to win The Phoenix again in 2022, at much the same time Spotted Elk was preparing to become a mum.
The mating to Hooked On Scotch brings in a 3×4 to Go Wild Teddy and a 4×3 to Elite State, plus a 4×4 of the brothers Hallucinate and Where’s Pedro.
Keep the bitches, Graham, keep the bitches!
CASCADE Monelli was a smart race bitch who came from a fabulous Dave Hobby-bred litter.
Now the Barcia Bale-Corona Monelli bitch, winner of six races and $42,000, has whelped four dogs and six bitches by champion sire Fernando Bale.
It is the proven, proven, proven cross of Fernando Bale over a daughter of Barcia Bale.
Cascade Monelli’s litter also contained Beck’s Monelli (17 wins, $120,000), Lashes Monelli (14 wins, $101,000) and the class act Stout Monelli (35 wins, $321,000), the latter a multiple feature race winner.
The pups from this litter are saturated with the Wheeler family’s bloodlines.
MATT Heilbronn kicked a huge goal when he took on Cindy Rumble at stud after a race career of 31 starts for just three wins.
The daughter of Cosmic Rumble-Dulcinea is from the Hancocks’ grand damline and she is also a litter sister to Steve Kavanagh’s G1 performer Joyce Rumble.
Steve put Joyce Rumble to Fernando Bale and got Group star Louis Rumble. The litter contains several Group performers.
Matt went his own way with Cindy Rumble, putting her to Zambora Brockie.
He got Dulceria (17 wins, $158,000), a multiple Group winner and one of Queensland’s best during her career.
Now Matt has gone down the proven line by whelping a Fernando Bale-Cindy Rumble litter of six dogs and two bitches. (Matt has always been lucky)
It will be VERY interesting to see how this litter, bred identically to Louis Rumble, performs.
PHIL Muller way up there in Toowoomba way, has just whelped eight dogs and two bitches from proven broodbitch Tahlia’s Way (Spring Gun-Miami Gold).
The winner of 16 races and $58,000, Thalia’s Way went to Zambora Brockie and got track stars like Black Comanche (15 wins, $71,000), Gypsy Del (9 wins, $63,000) and Adulate (9 wins, $40,000).
A litter by Cosmic Rumble produced Rumbling Away (7 wins, $39,000).
Tahlia’s Way’s latest litter is by My Redeemer and the mating brings in a double of Bombastic Shiraz that is found in several of the best progeny sired by My Redeemer.
RHONDA Essery can keep a dog sound and winning.
Townsville-based Rhonda did just that with Naturally Gifted (Dyna Double One-Virouette), who started 108 times for 24 wins and 34 placings for stakes of $74,000.
Naturally Gifted has just produced a litter by My Redeemer … six dogs and three bitches.
BOIL And Bubble, too, was a prolific winner.
The daughter of Mogambo-Miss Uggboot is a virtual sister to the great stayer Sweet It Is.
Boil And Bubble had 88 starts for 17 wins and was placed 31 times for $53,000. She was a multiple Wenty Park winner.
Boil And Bubble has had seven dogs and two bitches to her mating to Orson Allen.
MY great mate, the late Peter Reutschi, was rightly proud of the performances of Sheza Keen Size (Head Bound-Surf Queen).
Pete tragically died in a car accident on his way home from the track a few years ago. He had taken Sheza Keen Size to 20 wins and $91,000 for her owner, the late Len Antonio.
At stud, Sheza Keen Size is the dam of a litter by Thirty Talks that includes Peter Talks (16 wins, $37,000) and Smashniak Joker (7 wins, $16,000).
Now the bitch has whelped two dogs and five bitches in her mating to Mepunga Blazer.
TONY Zammit took Frieda Las Vegas to the top at Albion Park, winning 22 races and $125,000 with the daughter of My Bro Fabio and English Oaks winner Droopys Hope.
She was always around the money in feature races, winning the Winged Runner Trophy and Easter Trophy at Albion Park.
The bitch has a litter, her second, this time to Irish super stud Droopys Sydney.
Droopys Sydney is a huge success in Ireland and England, and in last year’s G1 Irish Derby final he had four of the six finalists.
While it might appear Irish sire over Aussie bitch, the intensity of bloodlines in the mating is admirable.
I’m told the pups are fabulous.
COLUMBUS Monelli earned a huge reputation in WA when he started racing.
The son of Zack Monelli-Frida Monelli has been third in the G3 SA Derby and a finalist in the recent Summer Chase at Cannington.
Frida Monelli (Fernando Bale-Bingle Monelli) won 17 races and $99,000. She is a litter sister to Dave Hobby’s G1 Perth Cup winner Trouper Monelli.
Now, Frida Monelli has produced a litter of five dogs and three bitches in a mating to Barcia Bale … yes, it’s that cross again, Barcia and Fernando.
Frida has produced two litters, by Zack Monelli and Zipping Garth, and all her named progeny are winners.
ARISTOCRATIC Gal (Worm Burner-Establish) might have won only four races during a long career on the track, but her credentials for a stud career are high class.
She was a finalist in the G3 Golden Sands at Albion Park.
And she comes from that wonderful litter that includes star G1 stayer Sir Truculent (44 wins, $436,000) and Power Burner (23 wins, $56,000).
Aristocratic Gal has produced three dogs and one bitch to her mating to Hooked On Scotch.
She has a wonderful pedigree for futue stud success.
