John ‘Bunny’ Brasch previews Saturday night racing at Ipswich.

AN exciting night of racing coming up on Saturday with the four heats of the rich Ipswich Auction Series over 520m.

The semis will be run the following Saturday with the $40,000-to-the-winner final to be run on April 15.

The Greg Stella-trained Magistrate won the Ipswich Auction Sprint Series over 431m on March 11 and begins his quest for the double when he lines up in Saturday night’s third heat – race nine at 8.08pm.

I think Magistrate (5) is certainly the one to beat in his heat, but I’m looking earlier in the program for my best bet on the card.

I’m very keen on Ringbark Razor (1) in race four at 6.24pm. She was an impressive winner at Ipswich three starts ago and can atone for her last-start unplaced run in the Ipswich Young Guns Final when she drew an outside box. She looks ideally suited on Saturday night back in an easier race and from the inside draw.

Here’s how I see the Ipswich meeting:

Race 1: Putting the first-starter Hara’s Trixie (2) on top in this. Take on trust on debut. Goulburn Girl (3) has been placed at Albion Park since coming up from NSW. Having her first start at this track. Free Drop (8) and Farmor Smitten (7) look the next best.

Race 2: Bonne Scotch (3) won impressively at this track and distance two starts ago in 30.87 before finishing 5th to Bar Cool Rocks at his last start here. Can atone in this. Born To Rave (1) looks the main danger while Bomber Bar Cool (2) and Sent From Heaven (4) look the next best.

Race 3: Going with Piazza Minerva (1) in this. Was well backed here last Saturday when a close 2nd to Tayla’s Lass. Watch the betting again. Should feature here. Bar Cool Rocks (7) looks the next best and My King (2) and Sir Finley (8) can get into the placings.

Race 4: Ringbark Razor (1) scored impressively at this track three starts ago when led throughout in 30.89. Subsequently finished 2nd in a heat of the Young Guns here before finishing down the track in the Young Guns Final when drew wide alley. Better suited this easier company and from the better draw. Bogie Hurricane (5) raced handier when he won at Albion Park last start. Having his first look at the Ipswich track in this but should feature in the finish. Next best look to be Tuzla Bale (2) and Energetic Cloud (7).

Race 5: Black Monaro (1) excels from box one, winning four of his five starts from the red alley. Finished down the track in a heat of the Young Guns at Ipswich two starts ago and again at Albion Park last start, but go on his win here at Ipswich four starts ago from this inside alley in a smart 30.55. Looks the testing material in this. Top Gun (6) won here last Saturday in 30.60 when led throughout and is unbeaten in two starts this track and distance. Looks the logical danger. Oh Oh Range (8) has been disappointing of late but if he can find his old form he will give this race a shake. Blue Rex (2) looks the next best.

Race 6: Going with Baccarat Boy (3) who won from box three at Albion Park three starts ago. He normally races off the speed, but should be running home strongly and this race suits. Rowdy Remi (5) has been placed at her last two starts and back up to the 630m here should suit. Blazing Smoke (1) is well boxed on the rails to run well. Hara’s Opal (4) and Any Given Sunday (7) look the next best.

Race 7: Sonic Wheels (8) likes wide draws and has been racing consistently at Albion Park of late. Looks hard to beat in this. Our Opals (7) looks the likely leader, but just struggles late at 520m. Frame Game (5) has had just the one start, finishing 2nd in a heat of the Vince Curry Series back in January. Freshend for this. Seven Sinners (2) looks the next best.

Race 8: Dolly Dutton (2) is having her first go over 520m at this track but has won twice over the trip at Albion Park in sub-30s times. Hasn’t raced for a month since finishing 4th over 431m here. Should go close in this. Haytown’s Girl (8) has won three of her four starts at this journey, including a sub-30s win at Albion Park. Looks the main danger. Digital Sea (7) has finished runner-up at her last two starts and has place claims again in this. Boom Boom Harley (3) looks the next best.

Race 9: Magistrate (5) won the 431m Ipswich Auction Sprint Final last month and is trying to complete the double over the next few weeks. Finished 2nd over 520m at this track behind It’s A Roo last start. Looks the likely leader in this and will be hard to run down. Jay Mac (8) won impressively first-up at this track last Saturday and expect further improvement. Looks the logical danger. City Way (1) and Booming Boo Boo (2) can get into the placings.

Race 10: Going with Villante (5) in this. He’s the most experienced runner in this heat with seven wins from his 32 starts. Should go close. Others to consider are Uzman Dutton (7), Bentley Boom (2) and Golden Penny (4).

Race 11: Inspired Reason (2) looks hard to beat here. Won twice at this track and distance, including a sub-25 win (24.92) from this alley four runs ago. The top pick in this. Identity Thief (8) goes well from wide boxes. Respect. Farmor Power (1) won at Albion Park two Thursdays ago and is racing consistently. Galway Governor (5) looks the next best.

Race 12: Carton Of Bear (2) was in early trouble from a wide alley last start at Albion Park but has won five of seven starts over the shorter distances. Steps up to 431m for the first time here but is drawn to race well. Others to consider are Glen’s Wish (5), Blue Jangles (4) and Spring Demon (8).
