Paul Dolan’s greyhound flashbacks

TEN YEARS AGO – DECEMBER 2011:

TONY Brett’s GLEN GALLON wins a star-studded Gr 1 Brisbane Cup by two lengths, beating Dyna Tron and Radley Bale into the placings.

DYNA TRON, trained by Andrea Dailly, made amends for that defeat by winning the Gr 1 Hobart Thousand . He scored by a head over Rewind.

TRAINERS Tony Brett, Mark Saal and Col Byers form a steering committee to push for the return of racing at Toowoomba, a track which closed in 2000. But the board of the day preferred the option of trying to get a track built at Logan, south of Brisbane.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – DECEMBER 2001:

NO INTENT for Jason Thompson wins the Gr 1 Top Gun at the Meadows. Toll Security and Carlisle Jack filled the placings. Brett Lee finished an out-of-character seventh.

TRICKY CREEK for Helen Ivers wins the Gr 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park by seven lengths in 29.95. Jeanie’s Queen and Yo Yo’s Gem ran the placings.

BLACK CALEB is a hometown winner of the Gr 1 Hobart Thousand for owner/trainer Alan Clark. Classic Capri and Family First are the placegetters.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – DECEMBER 1991:

LITTLE DENVER, an outsider, wins the NSW St. Leger from box four for owner/trainer J. Johnston.

AS WITH 2001, the Gr 1 Hobart Thousand is a hometown win for It’s Jenny’s Legacy for John Cameron.

MICHAEL BYRNE QC stated that his first 12 months as president of the Gabba and Brisbane (Albion Park) clubs was “challenging”. However the committee did report a profit of $22,412, described as gratifying during general recessionary conditions.
