TEN YEARS AGO – JUNE 2012: DEUTRONIUM for John Iwanyk romps home by four lengths in the WA Oaks at Cannington.

HE KNOWS UNO for Michael Patterson wins the Group 1 Albion Park Gold Cup over 710 metres. It’s a star-studded field of stayers. Miata ran fifth and Shimaguni seventh.

A NEW TRACK at Logan, to replace the Gold Coast Parklands which closed in 2008,  looks as far away as ever from becoming a reality. Many locals don’t want another gambling venue in their shire and there are environmental issues at the proposed site.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – JUNE 2002: ALBION PARK’S GOLD CUP provides a real thriller. Sydney stayer Total Denial, trained by Pauline Moran, survives a late burst from Victorian star Boomeroo to score by a nose margin.

BITABILITY for Graeme Bate is a four-lengths winner of the Border Park Galaxy at Tweed Heads. Mr Faithful and Halla’s Rocket filled the placings.

TONY ZAMMIT wins his home track Cup when Subic City, owned by Peter Bellamy, wins the time-honoured Queensland Cup at Beenleigh. Schooner of Gold and Foxy Fonz were the placegetters. Zammit and Bellamy are both inductees in the Queensland Hall of Fame for greyhound racing.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – JUNE 1992: HOW’S THE FORT for Ken Cheetham justifies being the $3.25 favourite for the Peter Mosman Classic at Wentworth Park, scoring by four lengths. Long-priced runners Fly Far and Amy’s Wish ran the placings.

DONE GOOD, prepared by an SA training legend Doug Payne, wins the Group 3 Gawler Produce Stake from box six in 30.91.

BOGAN SPECIAL, trained by Jim Mathewson, scores a surprise win in the Straight Track Championship at Capalaba at odds of 50-1. The $1.45 favourite Brandon Best finished an out-of-character last but did bounce back to win at Capalaba the following Saturday.
