TEN YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 2013:

Dyna Nalin, trained by Paul Stuart for Brendan Wheeler, wins the Gr1 Perth Cup. First prize is $140,000.

Paul Stuart wins the other feature on the same night, the Galaxy over 715 metres. Star stayer Miata romped home by 13 lengths in 41.48. She was owned by Stuart and Nicole Wheeler. That race was worth $80,000 to the winner.

Cintiaria wins the Gr1 Temlee at the Meadows in 29.76. Sonia Collins was the owner and trainer and collected the $100,000 winning prizemoney. 

TWENTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 2003:

What a Saturday night for Queensland at Wentworth Park. The Mick Zammit-trained Greasy Grizzly wins the Gr1 National Derby in 30.32. The Bill Kozionas-trained Lissiloo wins the Gr1 National Futurity in 29.87. Zammit said Greasy Grizzly was a strong dog but he wasn’t surprised that Lissiloo ran a much quicker time, declaring her to be a ‘flying machine’.

“The pair were by Just The Best who was really beginning to make a name for himself as a sire,’’ Zammit said.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 1993 :

Multiple Sydney premiership-winning trainer Don McMillan wins the Gr1 National Derby at Wentworth Park with Major Gossip., scoring by three lengths from box three in 30.59. Well known media identity Donnie Sutherland was the owner.

It’s the last night of racing at Brisbane’s Gabba track. John Reimer wins the first race of the night with Tokyo De Ville. The final race was won by Pretty Boy Buddy for Ipswich trainer Don Gammon.

Seven nights later it was Albion Park’s opening night. As happened at the Gabba, John Reimer won the first race with Tokyo de Ville.
