PREMIER training couple Jeff Britton and Angela Langton look at the Cranbourne Classic as the type of event that fits perfectly into the development of young greyhounds.
Formerly named the Cranbourne Puppy Classic, the Victorian provincial classic is restricted to greyhounds whelped on or before March 1, 2019
Both Britton and Langton have won the event and will no doubt be there again this month, along with most of the leading Victorian trainers.
Langton’s winner was Yow Yeh and partner Britton scored with Slingshot Hammer.
Robert’s brother Jeff has also scored in the Classic with Weblec Ace, which went on to win some handy events and managed to make finals of Group races.
Last year fellow Victorian trainer Jason Thompson won the event with Taken and he previously took honours with Proven Nitro.
As Chase was being prepared for printing Thompson was unsure how many starters he could have at Cranbourne because of the size of his operation, but you can be assured that if he has any youngster he thinks will be up to the occasion he will be there.
Likewise Langton and Jeff Britton.
“It is an age-restricted race and that has to be good,” said Thompson. “Any type of these events are good.”
Langton said it is important to keep the young dogs racing against their own age.
“This is because if they don’t do this they get outgraded too quickly, so it is ideal to restrict them to events against their own age.
