Entries for this year’s Racing Queensland Greyhound Sweepstakes are now open.

The greyhound sweepstakes is a fantastic event to showcase the wonderful canine athletes in our great industry.

Entrants will grace the showring at the Royal Brisbane Show on Sunday, August 8, and be judged on their appearance, build, and formation. One of the aims of the sweepstakes is to celebrate the breed, displaying the beauty and athleticism the breed possesses while also showing the amazing nature of the greyhound to the audience.

With prizemoney, trophies, and the coveted winner’s rug for Best in Breed on offer, it’s got all the makings of a great event.  Furthermore, for the first time this year, Racing Queensland will be paying appearance fees of $60 per greyhound that is entered into the event.

On the day, greyhounds will be benched in the canine area with great exposure to the public as they walk by. When it is time for the greyhound sweepstakes, entrants will make their way into the show ring by class, where they will parade their dog and be judged by an experienced judge with knowledge of the breed. There will be an opportunity for the Brace competition for entrants and a junior handler round, before best of breed is crowned.

Throughout the day, handlers will be invited to host their greyhound in Racing Queensland’s ‘meet a greyhound’ area, where members of the public will get the opportunity to have a cuddle, take a selfie and learn more about our dogs.
