TEN YEARS AGO – JUNE 2011: PRETTY MALAIKA for Frank Hancock wins the Border Park Galaxy. That was the third last running of the event, which ceased in 2013 and the track finished racing in 2016.

AMAKLER GIRL for Robert Stack wins the Group 1 Sapphire Crown Classic at Sandown in 29.70.

ISO OCTANE for Tony Brett wins the Group 1 Garrard’s Winter Cup at Albion Park. He Knows Uno and Cold Fusion filled the placings.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – JUNE 2001: SPRINGTIME MAGIC for Ron Ball wins the Border Park Galaxy by a huge margin of 6.75 lengths over the Michael Zammit trained Zaability.

KIPPAX for Bob Giltinan wins the Queensland Cup at Beenleigh by three lengths over Shiraziam. This was the third last Queensland Cup run at Beenleigh, as the track subsequently closed in 2003.

HOTSHOW VINTAGE for Jason Thompson wins the Group 1 Albion Park Gold Cup, beating Worldlee Man in 42.15. At the end of the 710 metres journey, a nose was the winning margin.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – JUNE 1991: ENFIELD for the Johannsen kennel wins the Maturity at Melbourne’s Olympic Park, jumping from box four for a comfortable win.

TENTHILL FLYER for Jim Gallaway wins the Lord Mayor’s Cup over 558m at Brisbane’s Gabba track from box eight. Mikarza Magic and Cool Marvel ran the placings. A more than handy racer, Tenthill Flyer made more of a name as a broodbitch. On May 2, 1992, her first litter, to Credibility, produced the champion Flying Amy.

WALLOWA FLASH, trained by Margaret Quarrell, continued his brilliant Capalaba form winning the National Straight Track Championship. The 2/5 ($1.40) favourite romped home by five lengths in 1993, beating Long’s Ace.
