TEN YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 2012:

NSW sprinter Oaks Road for Mark Gatt takes out the $140,000 to the winner Perth Cup by seven lengths. Lektra Jay and Autoamerican filled the placings.

RADLEY BALE, trained by Graeme Bate, wins the Gr 1 Temlee at the Meadows and Gr 2 Launceston Cup.

BARRY O’FARRELL is the NSW premier. The state’s Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing was a very busy man, George Sourris.

TWENTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 2002:

JEANIE’S QUEEN for Peter Giles wins the Gr 2 Launceston Cup at the old White City track by seven lengths. Floodfawn and Bridport Havoc were the placegetters.

CARLISLE JACK, trained by Bob Douglas, wins the Gr 3 Warragul Cup. Hail a Harley and Audrey Elaine were placed.

PETER BEATTIE is in his fourth of nine years as Queensland Premier. Merri Rose is into the third of five years as the state’s Racing Minister.

THIRTY YEARS AGO – FEBRUARY 1992:

CHINA TRIP for Gary Ball wins the Gr 1 Australian Cup at Melbourne’s Olympic Park, beating Buka Blitz and Bomber Gleeson. China Trip won the Cup the next year. In both wins, the winning margin was a neck.

EQUABILITY, the $1.80 favourite for Barry Dukes wins the Gr 2 Association Cup at Wentworth Park by eight lengths from box eight.

WAYNE GOSS was into the third of six years as Premier of Queensland. Bob Gibbs was into the third of seven years as the state’s Racing Minister.
