EL GRAND SENOR for Carolyn Jones wins the Melbourne Cup for a $175,000 first prize. It was a six lengths victory. El Grand Senor won the Top Gun the previous month by four lengths.
OCTANE SHOW gives Tony Brett his first City of Ipswich Gold Cup winner. Gnarley Boy and He Knows Uno filled the placings. Brett has since won the Ipswich Cup with Regal Lauryn in 2013 and Thirty Talks in 2016.
COSMIC CHIEF for Brian Parkinson wins the four dog Sandown Shootout by three lengths over Push the Paint, Enry Walt and So Seductive in that order.
TWENTY YEARS AGO – NOVEMBER 2000:
GO WILD TEDDY for Mark Bell collects $100,000 winning the Melbourne Cup. Classic Capri and Dutchy’s Angel claimed second and third.
BOSWELL for Lauryn Gorman wins the Summer Cup over 720 metres at Wentworth Park.
KANTARN BALE for Graeme Bate wins the Gr 3 Shepparton Cup. It’s a classy lineup with Dutchy’s Angel second and African Smokey third.
THIRTY YEARS AGO – NOVEMBER 1990:
JOANNE BALE, for owner/trainer Paul Wheeler, wins the Dave Alexander Memorial at Wentworth Park by four lengths from box one in 30.43.
HIGHLY BLESSED for Lorraine Ferremi wins the Melbourne Cup for a first prize of $40,000. Chariot Supreme sired the trifecta, with Singalong and Black Pirate in the placings. From box five, the aptly named Highly Blessed scored by seven lengths in 30.53.
